There has been a lot going on behind the scenes lately and this is just one of the many things we have been working on. We’re very excited to fill you in.
Over the next 18 months(ish) HOHW will be organising and completing a series of (relatively) “mini” challenges for our chosen charities.
Although these challenges are designed to help raise funds and awareness for CentrePoint and BHC Neonatal Unit, they will also help us put our training to the test and let us measure our fitness, resolve and teamwork in different situations before we depart on or our epic 3000 mile row across the Atlantic.
The First of Our Challenges
For the first in our series of “Charity Mini Challenges” we will kick off with a 38.6km (24mile) run across the Yorkshire Three Peaks on Sat 5th May.
For those who are not familiar with this challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks is the original “Three Peaks” and consists of 3 “Mountains” in the Yorkshire dales national park.
1. Pen-y-Ghent – 694 metres (2,277 ft)
2. Whernside – 736 metres (2,415 ft)
3. Ingleborough – 723 metres (2,372 ft)
We will be taking the traditional walkers route, which isn’t without it’s obstacles, and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent. However we will be pushing ourselves to run as much as possible in order to clock a decent time. The route is expected to be walked within 12 hours, however we intend to finish well under that……. fingers crossed.
As such, and with all our future “Charity Mini Challenges”, we will be holding some competitions. In this instance, whoever guesses closest to our finish time will win a prize. We will post more about how to enter close to each challenge date, so follow us on all our social media for the heads up.
Whilst doing our challenges we will (when possible) be live streaming to FaceBook/Instagram as-well-as posting pics. Who said men couldn’t multitask!?
P.s. When we say “Run” we mean a mixture of running, jogging, walking, getting lost, moaning, arguing and crying. Whatever it takes to finish.
We can’t wait to get started and get some money in the pot for our charities. Please give what you can no matter how small. It all adds up….. and don’t forget Gift-Aid!
